Wayzfaring Press

Wayzfaring Press

1 Traveling Press, 14 Artists

In the fall of 2020 as an alternative to holding the annual Tacoma Wayzgoose event (a community printmaking and letterpress printing celebration) the Wayzfaring Press was launched. A collaboration between Tacoma Wayzgoose and Write253, this traveling residency gives Tacoma artists the opportunity to explore letterpress printing safely in their own homes. A vintage Line-O-Scribe sign press, type cabinet, and other necessary equipment were delivered for 4-6 weeks and artists editioned prints while documenting on social media.

This collection of prints includes works from 14 different Tacoma based artists and is a combination or work printed as part of the Wayzfaring Press Project and Line Break Press. Each print is printed by hand using hand set vintage type or hand carved linoleum.

Line Break Press is a letterpress print program of Write253, a literary arts non-profit that works with teens and young adults in Pierce County. From September 2019-March 2020, Line Break Press was in residence at the Washington State History Museum, where some of these prints were produced in conjunction with museum programming.

We’re grateful to Tim Heitzman for donating the press; and to Taylor Cox and Michael Haeflinger for their efforts in restoration and organization.
