Now featured at Brooks Dental Studio: Tacoma Soap Refillery!

We’re excited to announce that Brooks Dental Studio will now be carrying floss and mouth rinse by the Tacoma Soap Refillery. Local and woman-owned, the Tacoma Soap Refillery shows a commitment to sustainable and environmentally-sound wellness practices through its use of bulk refill and zero-waste packaging. In addition to its production and sales practices, the Soap Refillery is invested in its community impact, donating a portion of its sales each quarter to organizations that support education, racial justice, social and environmental justice, and basic needs of the South Sound and beyond.

With the goal to reduce single-use containers in the Tacoma area, the Soap Refillery offers multiple convenient ways to use high-quality, eco-friendly products and containerst. Customers can opt for Tuesday/Thursdays dropoffs and pickups (free for orders $40 and over); free porch pickup on any size order at the North Slope Tacoma location; or shop the showroom in a calm, COVID-attentive environment. Regardless of your shopping method, the Refillery makes it easy to replenish your supply of soap, mouth rinse, toothpaste, and more. When you’ve used up what you’ve got, simply exchange or leave out your empty containers for new, full ones, and they’ll take care of the rest!

The Soap Refillery offers both as-needed and subscription services: the subscription service allows you to “set it and forget it,” with a monthly automatic delivery at 5-10% discount on all products.

As a customer of the Soap Refillery, you’re helping to popularize the use of refillable, reusable containers for many common household and personal care products. But don’t only come for the soap: the Refillery’s inventory is full of small-batch, useful gifts and accessories ranging from charcoal/eucalyptus body bars to reusable cotton wipes and lunch bags, biodegradable dishwasher pods to produce bags to bamboo soap trays. The bright, cheerful showroom offers COVID-sensitive drop-in shopping (or make an appointment!), with the option to bring your own containers and fill up on personal care products by the ounce.

Brooks Dental Studio would like to offer you a 10% discount coupon on your first purchase from the Tacoma Soap Refillery, whether in-person or online: scan the QR code or head to the TSR website to redeem!

Kwabi Amoah-Forson is a man on a mission. If you live in the Tacoma area you have no doubt spied his baby blue, 1988 Mitsubishi bus cruising the streets. It’s hard to miss with “Peace Bus” emblazoned on the side.

As Dr. Jamie thought about what art should grace Brooks Dental Studio at the start of 2021, she wanted it to reflect individual triumphs and struggles of 2020. “Hindsight 2020” showcases reflections from seventeen local artists as each details a personal experience from the year. Curator Tori Fields asked contributors to think about the unprecedented, and to submit a piece that in some way broke with each artist’s usual body of work or process. With an emphasis on spontaneity and experimentation--who hasn’t had to rely on a bit of both in 2020?--the show focuses on story and discomfort, featuring a wide range of backgrounds and specialities.

As the new year approaches, we typically try and double-down on getting fit--but with COVID-19 cases on the rise, spending more time at the gym isn’t an option. Don’t let all-important social-distancing guidelines turn you away from making positive changes in your life, though: now, more than ever, we need to turn to exercise and overall healthy habits to lift our spirits. With gyms closed for the time being and gray skies overhead, it can be hard to motivate to get outside, so we’ve done the legwork: see our recommendations for seven local spots to explore and bring a healthy mind and body with us into 2021.
